The Kickstarter campaign for Steve Niles' post-zombie apocalyptic SCAB is now in its second week. As part of the campaign, original page art is included. This aspect will be my focus here.
Original Cover Art
Day One of the campaign was a great success. The original cover art was sold out within the first few hours. The original art is usually the highest-priced level on my campaigns, and the original SCAB cover that I created for the series is one of my favorite pieces. I'm happy to see it find a good home and a nice start to the SCAB Campaign.
The original artwork from page 36 was also included and many of the panels were used to create the promo video.

Remastering SCAB
SCAB was created before I switched to a digital workflow for sequential story art, so these pages are bristol, India ink, and lots of whiteouts. I have been keeping the original pages under lock and key, just waiting for the right opportunity to revisit the series.
In the original series, I used tracing paper to letter the pages. After making a copy, I cut out the text and pasted it onto the art using wax. I feel old now! In the image above, I marked out the hand-lettered effects in panel 3 that need to be removed. I also marked the spots left behind by my original caption box that requires cleaning up. I use Photoshop to make these adjustments.
In addition, in the Photoshop levels panel, I adjusted the contrast to make the art clearer, and a sharpening effect to make it more crisp. I also have added the new (unedited) lettering to the panels.
If you haven't pledged yet, please consider supporting the creation of the SCAB graphic novel.
