Something different…
Nowadays, most collected comics usually reprint the issues with some changes, like color, word edits, and maybe some extra material. However, in movies, there are director's cuts, extended versions, updated effects, and reboots, the list goes on and on. But in comics, not so much. But this is precisely what I'm doing with SCAB written by Steve Niles. Remastering the two issues into one 48-graphic novel. It's a bit unusual because I'm editing my art, sequential, lettering, and layouts from 32 years ago! Yes, you could say I'm older than dirt and you wouldn't be wrong. But being a bit older and, I like to think wiser, I'm knee-deep in the process.
In my last post, I looked at correcting one panel. Now, I look at an entire page and assess what needs to be changed, edited, and even redrawn.
The opening page…
I have outlined the changes I needed to make to create a better introductory page above. The opening page is crucial for engaging the reader, and the original version felt static and lacked excitement.
The fix…
As you can see I upped the zombie apocalypse feel to the art and created more depth by adding a new zombie figure in the foreground.
Much more editing of the sequential art and pages to come in future posts.
