I am both a collector and a designer, which makes me excited when I have the opportunity to introduce an old comic to a new generation or to enhance a collector’s collection. I have been working on creating high-quality facsimile editions of the horror series "Weird" in collaboration with FantaCo, and I am currently in the process of restoring the fifth issue in the series.
Here are some steps I use in Photoshop to create high-quality reproductions of Weird.
Scans
Step 1; Scan all the pages at 300 dpi, CMYK tiffs.
Step 2: Open the raw image in Phototshop.
Step 3: desaturate the colors to work in black and white. Note, that color requires a different process, which I will cover in an upcoming post.
Step 4: Adjust the levels to bring the white to the background.
Step 5: Adjust the blacks to give the art some crispness.
Step 6: convert the image to greyscale and save.

The Cover
Check for the facsimile edition of Weird V.2 No. 2, which is the fifth issue in chronological order on comic shelves, expected to be available in late December or early January. In the meantime, you can visit FantaCo to order the back issues while they are still in stock.
Keep creating,
