While the comic industry undergoes one of its biggest upheavals since the creation of the direct market, and the future of indie comics remains uncertain, the work must go on. Rather than sitting waiting for the dust to settle, here’s what I’m working on in the studio this week.
Drawing in Scarlet
I’m frequently hired for production work on comics and books, making sure they’re ready for print. Recently, I started working on an anthology inspired by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe. While I can’t share all the details yet, an illustration was required as part of the production. Contributing art is always a fun part of the process, so I was excited to take on the challenge.
The illustration draws from Poe’s themes of seduction into the depths of dark waters and surrendering to the embrace of death. I suggested using a female form to embody death’s allure, echoing the dark lover Poe often wrote about.
In the EC horror tradition, the book features a host known as Dr. Masque, who appears in every illustration. I depicted him emerging from the dark water. Stay tuned for more details—I’ll share updates as soon as I can and as we get closer to the public release.
Margo Update…
My new Margo series is progressing well. In this sequence, readers are introduced to the He-Roidz as they burrow through a planet. Here, my rough sketches are shown alongside the finished line art, now ready for color.
I will be posting updates on the series as I work my way through the process.
Keep Creating,
