Creating Daredevil Charity Art

A while back, I was asked to create some art for a charity auction at a comic show. They had a list of characters to go with the cons theme, and I decided to go with Marvel’s Daredevil. My original artwork sold at the show, but I still have a scan of it. With the new TV series is going on, I thought it would be a great time to revisit this art and add color and dressing to my line art.

4. Costume and sky color highlights, shadows

5. Added light to the lower portions of the buildings and Daredevil’s sonar.

6. The final touch, adding the retro Daredevil logo.

When I first started drawing DD, the first thing that comes to my mind is Gene Colan’s iconic run. So, I decided to try and capture some of what made Gene’s art so special - the motion. Gene Colan’s art created this incredible sense of movement within 2D space. If I could even come close to that, I’d be happy.
